Towards mid-May, the mayor of Santa Venera informed residents of Fleur-De-Lys Junction in Fleur-De-Lys that works on the street were to start in the weeks that followed.
Many residents voiced their objection to works starting in June, since the local feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was due to be celebrated soon, and the street forms part of the procession's route.
Although objections were made, even by the parish priest, the mayor acted in a most inconsiderate way and carried out her plans without taking into account the importance of such an event for the residents.
She assured residents that works would be completed a week before the feast. However, as many expected, the mayor had to take her word back as roadworks continued even during the week of the feast.
