CILT explores partnerships with universities

Universities in the United Arab Emirates are being encouraged to work with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) to expand the scope of education courses in supply chain management.

The global trade association, which has reported a positive response for its training courses in the Middle East, is exploring partnerships with the University of Wollongong in Dubai, Bolton University in Ras Al Khaimah and Emirates Aviation College.

"Since starting our operations in Dubai, we have received a steady number of bookings from students looking for qualification programmes in logistics, supply chain and transport management," said Alex Borg, director of CILT's operations in the region.

"This positive response has continued this year and we are looking into fresh opportunities for students to complete a diploma or advanced diploma with CILT and enrol in a postgraduate programme with a partner university. Meetings have already been held with a few institutes and we hope to make progress with more ideas later this year," he added.

Mr Borg, a chartered trainer and consultant in logistics and supply chain management, is director of Support and Supply Management (SSM) Group Ltd, (www.ssmgroup.org), a training and consultancy firm specialising in logistics and supply chain management and also represents the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport UK (www.ciltuk.org.uk).
