Mircea Lucescu, coach of UEFA Cup champions Shakhtar Donetsk, is recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack, the Romanian's son said yesterday.

"My father is feeling fine and there is no serious problem. His heart is strong," Razvan Lucescu, who is coach of the Romanian national side said.

The 63-year-old Mircea underwent surgery at Donetsk in the Ukraine earlier in the day after he complained of a pain in the chest, Romanian TV said.

The veteran coach steered Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar to victory in the UEFA Cup in May this year.

Previously his career trophies included titles in the Romanian championship with Rapid Bucharest, in the Turkish league with Galatasaray and Besiktas as well as in the Ukrainian championship.
