National cultural policy to be launched soon
A national cultural policy is being launched for consultation in the coming weeks, Culture Minister Dolores Cristina said.
Speaking during a meeting with the leaders of cultural entities the minister expressed her wish for a cultural calendar listing all activities being held.
She said that while a lot of activities were held in certain months, fewer activities were held in others so there needed to be better planning and programming for these to be spread all through the year.
She also stressed that cultural entities should coordinate their resources and work together in certain areas such as publicity, advertising and the organisation of transport.
The minister said that a cultural policy for children was also needed to encourage the young population appreciate culture from a tender age.

First of All let us get people who are not lackeys involved in Malta`s Culture Environment.Do the persons there smiling know what CULTURE means ? Has the CENSORSHIP BOARD been discussed and whether this bit of ANACHRONISM stays on ? Did the persons there gathered raise the idiocy behind STITCHING being banned or why are we to have a National Theatre without a Roof or why was JOSEPH CALLEJA constrained to state publicly that he will sing in a roofless National Theatre? In this insular country,CULTURE has also regrettably been tainted by the stupidity of Politicians who understand next to nothing about Culture but want to impose their myopic concept of CULTURE.We have heard such nonsensical statements uttered again and again, but they all fizz out eventually. This time will equally be no exception.CULTURE must be liberal, with its legs wide spread to allow those who want to partake of its pleasure - NO CENSORSHIP particularly by Human Idiots,Liberal Arts in all their dimensions, and above all a ROOF TOP for our NATIONAL THEATRE and a PIG STY for our Parliamentarians who should have known better how to utilize public funds than wasting them on a crude Valletta Entrance Project!

An intrusive Government in the child's education is the worst harm it can inflict than good it intends to promote.
Any type of education beings at the home, by the parents, Culture is passed on by the parents and elders onto the children.

Let us keep our hopes up! There is a ray of light on the horizon!
Let us get our young population aware that the culture of our country is something we should be proud of, but let us start from the parents who tend to see anything that has to do with art and culture as a waste of time. Ask any art teacher at school!

At last the elusive document surfaces!! I wonder how strongly fortified the censorship board is by this new document and whether the minister for Education and Culture will truly give Culture its due importance.

Yes it is high time that such a step is taken. We have especially during the Summer a good number of Cultural Activities and on some days may have more then five activities on same day AND same time not to add the various festas. It will also be a good idea if the Ministry takes it up to ensure that funds are given to all Local Councils and ensure that this money is spend on Cultural activities only. What is happening presently is that many Cultural activities are held in certain Towns and Villages and we have other villages and towns whch have only the Village or town festa but not even one Cultural Activity. Yesterday in St.Julians where I come from we had a Napolitan Song Concert which was put up by the Marie Therese Vassallo Voice Studio sponsered by The St.Julians Local Council. You could see from those present that this is what the people want and many were those who told the Local Mayor who was present to organize more such activities in Balluta Square. Yes that is what we want MORE CULTURAL ACTIVITIES COORDINATE ALL OVER THE YEAR AND SPREAD ALL OVER MALTA & GOZO.

The photo is so revealing. It seems there are no women leaders in the cultural field. This country never changes. Every field of endeavour is male-dominated and the authorities continue to encourage it. We have so much to learn from Baltic and Scandinavian countries.

I would venture to suggest that the state dedicates resources to collect information on Cultural Events submitted by all entities, which can be used to promote them to the general public. We are a country that is rich in cultural events, but these are rarely promoted on a national level, with the natural result that, after going through all the dedication and personal expense, turnout for certain cultural events ends up being low for the simple reason that the organisers did not afford the resources to promote their event to a wide enough audience. A website totally dedicated to the local calendar of cultural events, showing events/links to websites etc, that have been submitted by the various individuals or organisations, which service should be provided free of charge to the latter, would certainly not cost the world and go a long way in promoting local culture, both locally and abroad.
