Fewer Maltese go abroad in May
Outbound Maltese tourists were down by 13.3 percent in May when compared to the corresponding month last year.
Of these, 82.1 percent travelled by air.
The National Statistics Office said that in the month under review, Maltese residents departing by air and sea were estimated at 20,482. The majority - 89 percent, travelled to EU destinations, the most popular being Italy and the UK.
In addition, an estimated 2,252 outbound tourists opted for non-EU destinations.
The majority of travellers were in the 25-44 age bracket.
The NSO said that the number of Maltese passengers departing by air and sea between January and May amounted to 102,870, slightly more than in the corresponding period last year.
Of these, 87.2 per cent travelled to EU destinations with the most visited countries being the UK and Italy.

Even if tracel agenciescut down the prices@ Emmanual@ people are now just staying put, not only becuae of the recession but also of the latest report from the WHO regarding the fast spreading of the The Virus across the globe in a such a speed that in most cases only the worst are reported. confined places and also lack of hygene in certain places and countries are to be avoided if necessary.

SOME TRAVEL AGENCIES SHOULD CUT THEIR PRICES TOO!!!. SOME TIME YOU FIND TICKETS THAT WHEN YOU BUY THEM FROM ABROAD THEY COST THE LEAST 100 EUROS LESS THEN HERE.
AND I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT ONLINE BOOKING.
DAYS ARE HARD SO EVEN TRAVEL AGENCIES HAVE TO CUT THE PRICES!!!WAKE UP

With the prices for food, water, gas and electricity continuing to rise people are finding it hard to get the funds for these small luxuries. It's about time the government enforced some regulation on the control of price fixing in this country because retailers are becoming more and more greedy.

Yes very true few Maltese goig abroad but the on the other hand there are fewer visitors visiting the island, so i think it works out even all wround
