Flights at €1
Low-cost airline Ryanair yesterday launched a new offer of one million flights at €1, including taxes and charges, until July 17 in celebration of its new route from Malta to Madrid. The airline will operate flights from Malta to Spain's capital on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
"It has never been easier to escape for a well deserved break to Madrid and many other destinations with Ryanair offering the guaranteed lowest fares across Europe," Ryanair's spokesman Ida Buonanno said.

I travel a lot and can not understand the logic of some correspondants. I have just come from bari where a return flight for three people with Ryan air cost us 150 euros, a pittance compared to the exorbitant prices we were used to paying with Air Malta.
Over the New year, i was booking a flight to Rome through air Malta and while I was examining the price, I decided to try Alitalia before I actually press the confirm button with on the air malta sight. Unbelievable, the same flight with Alitalia (not a low cost airline) for two people was 200 euro cheaper. How Air Malta expects to survive with these prices is beyond comprehension. Gone are the days when the Nation had to sit and be fleeced and taxed to the bone to leave this God forsaken island. Gone are the days when air Malta personnel used to travel for free at will.

It's a weclome relief to have such cheap flights to fly back home in the summer months ! I prefer paying 79EUR than what I used to pay with Airmalta and/or Alitalia at 400 EUR (even booking 5 months ahead !) And if you want 1EUR flights, fly in the winter months, Madrid is equally beautiful in the colder months....bhalissa hawn shana !!

Mr. Fenech was right in assuming that flights for Madrid were for 1 euro as a celebration of its new route to Madrid since I got exactly the same impression myself.
Being a regular visitor to Spain and particularly the beautiful city of Madrid, I was very much tempted to go there again for a few days. However, after visiting the Ryanair website the prices quoted pretty much higher. This also applies to the Trapani route. The only real offers of € 1 for a flight are solely out of the UK. This was either a case of misreporting (story has been edited since yesterday), or an over enthusiastic Ms. Bunoanno, or someone getting their knickers in a twist. Either way, a huge disappointment to us travelers.

It is kind of misleading....but if you read it properly there is no were written that flights are for Madrid. It says
"Low-cost airline Ryanair yesterday launched a new offer of one million flights at €1, including taxes and charges, until July 17 in celebration of its new route from Malta to Madrid."
It says for CELEBRATION of its new route, not that flights are for Madrid. Cheap flights of 1 euro are available on the site from Malta to Trapani.

Misleading journalism by the Times or misleading information by Ryanair?
The €1 flights are only from the UK however your report gives one the view that they are being offered from Malta to Madrid.
It is very clear from the Ryanair website that a one way ticket in July costs €29.99 plus €5 online check-in and €25.54 tax, whilst in August the fare goes up to €79.99 and the check-in and tax remain the same.
