Over the weekend, Marsa CC took on the returning Stockport Grammar School team who were here on their ninth tour.

Stockport won the toss on Saturday and elected to bat first.

J. Jones and E. Martin opened the batting with Martin being the first one to go, scoring just eight runs but Jones went on to collect 30. C. Dewee scored 26, L. Isherwood 11 and B. Barlow 18. J. Needham held tight for 57 not out as S. Lynch chipped in with a useful 25 towards the end of the innings.

Stockport totalled 202 runs from their overs. For Marsa, Mike Caruana was the main wicket-taker with three.

In reply, Marsa were off to a flyer, scoring 50 runs from the first six overs with Chris Naudi providing the action but finally being caught for 39.

Nowell Khosla played a superb innings, top-scoring with 65 and Firoz added another 21 while Mike Caruana scored 17. Ronnie Sacco (13 not out) and John Grima (two) made the winning runs required with two overs to spare.

On Sunday, Stockport batted first again. This time their total was 206 with M. Barber hitting 54.

Nowell Khosla was the main wicket-taker for the home side with four.

The hosts' reply started off badly with Khosla being caught for no runs. However, Tosif Patel played an excellent innings of 60 before being bowled. Mark G. Sacco added 19, Javed Shah 38 and Andy Naudi 18.

With only five balls in the innings to go, Ronnie Sacco (41 not out) and Mike Caruana (20 not out) finished off the Stockport attack. It was Marsa's first series win over Stockport Grammar School since 2004.

The previous Wednesday, Marsa had played against newcomers Marple CC in a 20-over game.

Marple totalled 165 runs but the home team could only manage 121 in reply. It was Marsa's first 20-over upset of the year.
