The Labour Party this afternoon accused the government of seeking to prolong court proceedings in the case over the reimbursement of VAT paid on vehicle registration tax.
The case was instituted by the PL on behalf of 18,000 vehicle owners. It started being heard earlier today before Mr Justice Joseph Zammit McKeon.
The party said the government's representatives had raised a number of procedural issues and were insisting that each case should be heard separately. The PL's lawyers argued that the procedure should be a practical one which tackled the merits of the case.
"It is clear that this is an attempt by the Gonzi government to drag its feet and prolong this court case rather than hand out what is due by right to 18,000 consumers" the PL said.
