Roger Agius, 47 of Fgura was this evening accused of the fatal stabbing of his wife and mother-of-three Catherine in Tarxien yesterday.

He was also accused of unlawful possession of a knife and of relapsing.

Mr Agius, who looked nervous during the arraignment, pleaded not guilty.

Defence counsel Manuel Mallia asked for his client to be examined medically and psychologically.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti denied bail and sent a note to the Director of Prisons for Mr Agius to be examined. The authorities will then decide whether he should be held in prison or in a forensic unit.
