The new mayor of Sliema, Nikki Dimech, should tread carefully before implementing the residents' parking scheme, even though the legal notice has been issued. It would be amateurish of him not to consider the needs of businesses besides those of residents. Two previous mayors who campaigned for him are fully aware of the problems that businesses in Sliema have been facing.

If he has the residents' interests at heart, Mr Dimech's priority should be cleaning the streets, fixing the pavements and so on. I invite him to walk down to the Ferries and surrounding streets to meet both residents and business people.
