SEC exams pass rate improves

The Education Ministry said this evening that there had been a general improvement in the pass rate for SEC exams, whose results were issued today.

The ministry said exams were held in 33 subjects at Ordinary level, with a total of 7,378 exams.

The highest number of candidates for Paper A was in Maltese while the highest number of Paper B candidates was for Maths.The following list shows the subjects and the percentage of students who achieved grades of between one and five. The first number is last year's rate. The rates in bold are this year's results.

Maltese 58.6% - 55.9%

English 55.1% - 56.7%

Italian 63.9% - 69.7%

French 75.3% - 71.8%

Spanish 68.2% - 69.4%

German 48.4% - 49.7%

Religion 60.1% - 61.3%

Maths 62.1% - 66.6%

Physics 66.3% - 66.6%

Chemistry 70.8% -70.9%

Biology 61.7% - 62.3%

Education Minister Dolores Cristina congratulated the students and augured that they would further their education.
