Malta's new High Commissioner to the UK, Joseph Zammit Tabona, recently presented his letters of credence to Queen Elizabeth II.

During a private audience later, the Queen spoke about the excellent relations between the UK and Malta and renewed her congratulations to President George Abela who was appointed in April.

The Queen reportedly said she cherished the memories of being able to drive around Malta quite freely and recalled how Mabel Strickland, a former editor of The Times, used to send her a box of Maltese oranges to Buckingham Palace every Christmas.

The High Commissioner's wife, Susan Zammit Tabona proposed to revive this tradition at Christmas.
