Debenhams launching Malta recruitment drive
Debenhams' department store, which is due to open in Malta next Spring, is to launch its first major recruitment drive.
"We are looking to build a team of individuals with the right attitude and work ethic, keeping focus on our customers in whatever we do. Our initial drive is aimed to fill the key positions namely those of the visual merchandiser, operations, merchandiser and warehousing. We are especially interested in hearing from skilled individuals who enjoy working in the fast-moving and exciting fashion industry, and who nurture teamwork, customer focus and attention to detail," said Kevin Gollcher , General Manager of United Department Stores.
"We shall then be having a second recruitment drive that will be focusing on our sales team later on in the year," explained Mr Gollcher.
Debenhams will be the main tenant at The Point in Tigne. The store will take just under 3,000sqm of the 14,000 sqm of the shopping centre. The department store will be operated under a franchise agreement by United Department Stores Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of United Group Ltd.
Debenhams has over 150 department stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and over 50 international stores. In the last six months, five new international stores and a new UK store were opened. By the end of 2009 Debenhams will be opening an additional three stores in the UK with a further three stores internationally.

@ Nigel Lawrence, interesting, I will comper the UK Prices and the Malta prices, I don't think that Debenhams will make a July sale like they just had in England!
The January sales is some what standard.
So let's wait and see.

If the other franchises such as 'Next 'are anything to go by, then expect a mark up of around 40%.
How this can be justified puzzles me.
OK freight may push the price up, but wages and premises must be cheaper here.

Shall I dare ask if there will be any parking spaces for prospective customers or is this store surrounded by parking slots which are reserved only for sliema residents. If this is the case together with the inflated prices mentioned below, I will stick to buying all my necessities from the internet where I never had problems finding good quality items at good prices delivered right to my doorstep.

for the first two years it will sell at a loss just to kill off competition, then it will raise it prices to what ever they want simple y because there will be no one in sliema to compete with them. also with the restricted parking zone around sliema being enforced this is surly going to kill off all the shops in sliema ????? which is also in this mega stores favor ??? money makes money get smart ?

Isn't our Euro equivalent to Italy's Euro?!
Is it the customer that pays directly for the Stores frenchisor royalties and other expences? The sales person at this one particular shop explained in these words when i asked why we pay extra ''Dak ghax ahna inkunu iridu inhalsu l-Imbarazz'' ... Imbarazz?!!! Wow!
