I have seen and studied the designs that the renowned Renzo Piano has envisaged for our capital city Valletta but I feel that I must put pen to paper to show my disapproval and voice my concerns along with all the other readers and the majority of the Maltese people who feel the same as I do: that the majestic Royal Opera House should be rebuilt as it once stood to the designs of Barry.

The Royal Opera House was considered by many as one of the finest opera houses in Europe and it should be rebuilt as it once stood not kept as a relic of the war days and used as an open-air theatre in the summer months.

When the Fenici and Bari opera houses were burnt down they were rebuilt to their original designs. I also feel that since Malta has its own international tenor in Joseph Calleja, it should be right and fitting that, when he sings in Malta, he sings in a proper opera house like the metropolitan in New York or Covent Garden in England.

I sincerely have no doubt that if the Royal Opera House were to be rebuilt it would attract lots of international opera singers from all over Europe and would pay for itself if run properly.

The opera house was a classical gem that matched Valletta - a city built by gentleman for gentleman, so please Prime Minister, give us back what was taken away from us over 60 years ago. Go down in history as the Prime Minister that had the guts to rebuild the opera house to its former majesty and glory.
