Dun Anton Mallia Borg writes:
All Birkirkara parishioners are in mourning after the unexpected death of Canon Anton Mallia, a zealous and hard-working priest who devoted the last 53 years to the Church. A concelebrated Mass presided by Mgr Anton Gouder and several others, including all the members of the Birkirkara chapter, friends, and several monsignors, thanked God for his intense pastoral work and prayed for his repose.
Dun Anton was a member of Birkirkara chapter since 1956. While fulfilling to the letter his duties as member of the chapter, he was nominated procurator of the church of Our Lady of Victories, and spent a short period teaching Latin at St Aloysius' College.
After saying daily Mass, he dedicated most of his time to hearing confessions in the basilica, teaching catechism and hearing confessions in primary and secondary schools. He was also director of the religious association of the Holy Name of Jesus and of the Christian Mothers.
Dun Anton led female members of the Society of Christian Doctrine in their weekend retreats, as well as male members of the Museum. He will be forever remembered as a good and holy priest.
