Nationalist MEPs Simon Busuttil and David Casa have acquired slots in key parliamentary committees which are set to be constituted next week during the inaugural session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
The head of the Maltese delegation in the EPP group, Simon Busuttil, will be serving on three committees, namely the civil liberties committee which deals with civil liberties, justice and home affairs, including the EU immigration and asylum policy, the petitions Committee which receives complaints from EU citizens who feel that their EU rights have been breached and the internal market committee which deals with laws covering the EU internal market and consumer rights. He will be a member in the first two and a substitute in the third.
MEP David Casa will serve as a member in the employment and social affairs committee which deals with employment and labour law and social rights and as a substitute in the economic and monetary affairs committee which deals with economic and monetary affairs, including the supervision of the European Central Bank.
Dr Busuttil said:
“As promised in our electoral manifesto we have secured slots in the committees that deal with issues that are most crucial for Malta”.
Mr Casa added that employment and immigration were foremost issues in the election campaign and the Nationalist MEPs ensure their presence in the parliamentary committees that dealt with these issues.
The parliamentary committees will be formally constituted next week in Strasbourg and the week after in Brussels.
