A total of €9,279 were collected by yesterday afternoon in the Oħloq Tbissima marathon being held in aid of the St Joseph Home in Sta Venera and the St Paul Missionary priests.

The 60-hour fund-raising, televised marathon, which runs until Sunday at midnight, was inaugurated by President George Abela and his wife Margaret and Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, yesterday.

Dr Abela described this mara-thon as a clear example of solidarity without frontiers where donors did not expect any prizes.

He said people in missionary lands lacked essentials but their work was a lesson to everyone because they could appreciate the beauty around them. Donations can be made by calling 5004 9853 (€7), 5004 9855 (€14) or 5004 9850 (€23) or by SMSing 5061 8099 (€4.66).
