Labour's message to police force

Security and order could not be effectively enforced without the continuous work and dedication of the police, Labour Party spokes-man Michael Falzon said.

"In a modern world... the police need to be more prepared, organised and, above all, motivated to meet new challenges... Only then can crime be effectively prevented," he said, as the party sent its warmest wishes to the police who tomorrow celebrate the anniversary of the force's foundation.

Dr Falzon said it was important the police were always loyal and that they carried out their duties with honesty in all situations.

The government should ensure the police were always motivated while carrying out their duties, he added. It should maintain it by respecting their dignity, as well as offering them good and decent working conditions.
