Man killed by bull at annual Pamplona run
A man was gored to death today as he took part in the traditional Running of the Bulls in the Spanish city of Pamplona, a hospital spokesman told local radio.
The unidentified man was gored in the neck after one of the bulls veered into a group of runners, the spokesman said.
Television showed a bull flipping a man dressed in white trousers and a green shirt and then goring him as he lay curled on the ground while fellow runners tried to distract the animal by pulling on its tail and hitting it with sticks.
Another three runners were injured.
The death was the first for several years in the event made famous by Ernest Hemingway's novel The Sun Also Rises. Hundreds of runners from around the world now participate in the week-long fiesta, often drinking all night before the early morning run through the streets in front of bulls rushing to the bull ring.

Always pleasant to hear a news article of this sort. Good luck to all bulls forced into participating in this massacre. Sincerely wish that you succeed in giving all participants and any eventual matadors the same treatment they reserve for you in the arena. Gore all to death while you still can. Show no remorse. He who plays with fire gets burnt eventually.......hopefully

There is a big difference between adventure and stupidity! Running in front of a herd of bulls that are worked up to frenzy is STUPID not brave or adventurous. It takes no skill whatsoever , you just need to have a low IQ! (And the bull-fight is cowardly and disgusting for that matter! ) So is confusing a sport like diving or formula 1 with a bull run!
For your information I regularly go diving and abseiling, true there is an element of risk but it's calculated if you know what you are doing!

To tell you the truth i do not pity the man killed because he could reason before he got killed. I pity the bulls because they are the poor creatures because they are animals and what can animals do? They have to defend themselves. So the Eu has banned spring hunting and it allows this kind of gore to happen in the streets just because Spain is one of the largest countries in the EU. Hunting is also a tradition but this kind of sport (if it is sport ) is another tradition. So why dont they ban this sport and bull fighting? If it continues, then I`m sorry to say that those killed do deserve to die because they are insane and show cruelty to animals. Where is the Spanish government? So, come on bulls let`s kill these insane cruel creatures. If 1 man got killed can pls someone tell me how many bulls were killed? So the bulls need to kill alot of people to have a decent contest because they can never square the result. So stop this cruelty before other crazy people get killed.

What a tradition! This is what I call legal torturing of bulls!
If the guy got killed, well, that's expected...running in front of a bull! On the other hand, I pity the bulls for the way in which they are tortured once in the ring. Tradition my foot!

In answer to C.Vidal.
What I was writing about was the encierro-the running of the bulls from their pen up to the bullring. Completely two different subjects. The bullfight is another thing.
The route the bulls follow is approximately 800 metres. No bull has ever been tortured or killed during the few minutes this lasts. Those who run do so at their own risk. What I was arguing is that they should do so in a fit state.

This is yet another excuse to boost male ego, at the expense of innocent creatures. Perhaps this helps raise awareness to this form of animal cruelty.
For those who are already aware, here's a petition to ban a similar sport that is bullfighting: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/638133842

Considering the excruciating pain and the humiliation this wonderful animal goes through in the arena, he has to have his say once in a while, watcha think???

so what..????? why don't you mention how many bulls are tortured and killed in this inhumane "tradition". This is another evidence showing the animalistic characteristics of human beings, just to satisfy his ego by feeling supreme on other creatures. well human beings even feel releaved and better when looking at the misfortunes of fellow human beings. they feel that they are not alone and there are others like them or even worse, and this makes them feel better. This is how it is unfortunately. One cannot compare such tradition in Spain with local festas. the ones that die in firework accidents when there from their own will and they know the dangers. so if they die on their own it does not matter, the worst is if they kill innocent people with them. In this case the bulls are not there voluntary but they are forced into this mess. All such so called traditions involving killing and torture of animals should be banned if we want to show that we are really civilised. It does not mean that if people found them entertaining hundreds of years ago this still apply for today.

I ran the encierros in the early sixties. As a matter of fact I met Hemmingway there. What is happening nowadays is that the essence is drastically being changed culminating in a great majority running under the influence of all night boozing. Not the right approach to a marvellous and unforgetable experience.Like every traditional feast respect for their origins have to be observed.
Should we ban our traditional Festas because firework factories blow up from time to time killing more people over the years than those in Pamplona.

@DAVID BUTTIGIEG. So according to you whoever chooses to go diving deserves to be eaten by sharks or lets say the late Senna had it coming and deserved to dye the way he did because he was running to beat the devil. Dear David, some men live by their wits and cannot help themselves to do otherwise. Others who are less adventurous will spend their day reading a book on a sofa and will probably die a quiet death on their bed. So please dont go uttering words which you may wish you wouldn't have said at all. If I were you I would have said a prayer for the dead and just shut up instead.
