A total of €9,279 were collected by 3 p.m. in the Oħloq Tbissima marathon which started at noon today and continues until Sunday at midnight is this year collecting funds for St Joseph Home and the missions in Peru, Pakistan and the Philippines.

The marathon was opened by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech who appealed to the public to pray and think about priest missionaries more.

President George Abela said that people in missionary lands lacked essentials but gave everyone a lesson because they could appreciate the beauty around them.

The marathon, he said, was a clear example of solidarity without frontiers.
