Malta's illegal migration problem raised in Stockholm talks

Malta’s Chargé d’Affaires ad interim for Nordic countries has conveyed Malta’s wish for progress, in Commissioner Jacques Barrot’s pilot project for the relocation between member states of people granted protection, as well as in the setting up of the European Asylum Support Office.

Mr Radmilli was having talks in Stockholm with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Regional Representative for the Baltic and Nordic Countries and senior officials of the Swedish Ministry of Justice

Ola Henrikson, director general of the Swedish Justice Ministry expressed appreciation for the organisation of Swedish Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Tobias Billström’s visit to Malta, which enabled him to have an insight into the country’s absorption capacity and the disproportionate burden it was facing.

Meanwhile, Finland has its participation, through seven experts in the Frontex Nautilus 2009 mission. Denmark will participate with three experts.
