How does one cure an influenza? A flu comes and goes by itself and propping one with anti- biotics like is done in Malta does not really make a difference. So I do not understand this headline. A person gets the flu, rests for a few days, eats vitamins and lots of liquids and the flu goes away as it came after a week or two. As any other flu old people and infants can be liable to complications and even people with poor health. Otherwise this is a flu that just has a different name from other flus. You cure a disease but not a cold or the flu. Hope those Maltese who get the first sign of a cold stop running to their doctors. Maybe the department of health should teach these people not to throw their money away like this and make private doctors richer.

What I am saying seems that it is not being understood by Galea L. and T. Pulis.

In Malta and Gozo there are people with worse contagious diseases that are among us and nobody ask - Who are these people and from they come from so that we will be protected from their disease?

The media should follow the ethical procedures in this regard with special reference to Gozo where the localities are too small to trace the person involved.

Such reports should be - In Malta there are...... or In Gozo there are ....

Yes ofcourse William A.McCarthy we are with you on this and second your advice. We retired here in Gozo from the UK, and although we love the place and also the people of Gozo we want to see these people get back to a normal life, i must admit we tried Malta the first time we arrived on the island, but due to the noise and fumes and what not, we couldn't stand the place any longer and so we are now happily settled in the Gharb vicinity and love it., saying this i think the only way to avoid the virus is for the time being stop going to local restaurants, or any feasts, bars,we don't know what sort of hygene they have behind doors,kitchens etc., its a risk of catching the virus,but ofcoursae people are free to do what they want, i am just talking from our point of view and we also think that the swine flu was brought in from Malta and the tourists and not from the local people of Gozo.Now you make what you want out of this but thats your problem and not ours.. Have a nice day .

with regards to Gozo it's all around d island anyway so there's no use to mention from where the infected people are. we just have to b extremely careful although I'm guessing that us living in a small island the majority of the population will probably get the flu, unless we all stay locked behind closed doors. it's just flu people you're not going to die from it if u take the necessary precautions and medication.

Why should the town or village not be mentioned?
What's wrong if people know that in certain towns and villages there are people with swine flu to avoid them if possible?
Isn't this one of the ways how to try to avoid getting infected?
Isn't this one of the ways how to prevent the virus from continuing to spread?
Why is all this secrecy necessary because someone might get to know that Mr X or Ms Y got swine flu?
It's not the end of the world is it?

It seems that a lot of us are taking this whole issue with a pinch of salt. OK, we should not panic, but that does not mean we have to lower our guard either. And I don't understand why we should shut the Press's mouth up about the localities either. After all, we live in a modern day of free speech and freedom of knowledge and expression, and I guess there is nothing wrong with saying where the patients are from...after all this is being done all around the world, so why do we act as "the holier than thou" and expect that the press does not pass on this info to the populace?

By the way, for those of you that do not know, or who simply want to ignore the known facts...the last time the world saw a Flu pandemic was back in 1918. Back then the flu started out in the same way in spring/summer and was very slight and not fatal...until the second wave in autumn, which started to kill healthy people by the hundreds.

There are already strains of this new flu which are resistant..(cont)

@Peter.Deboneo yes i read it too on teletext, and it would be a good idea as i believe they still get paid for being out, but its better then spreading the virus and cheaper in the long run, but honestly being Malta i just cannnot see that taken place over here, so people who had the symptons with a mild infection will still have to report for work but ofcourse others who are at a higher risk i say stay away from your colleagues as far as poss. I don't think thats going to effect Gozo much for one reason there is no work to start of with.

Its seems that Gozo is hard hit more so then Malta and for a small island it sounds a bit alarming to me, but what are we to do stay home and hide under the cupboard or just carry on as usuual as if nothing has happend., its a bit of a mistery virus i say,cause up to about 10 days ago Gozo was clear of this infection, now all of a sudden all hell break loose. Hmmmmmm, i wonder is the visitors or just germs in the air breathing cause of this hot spell we are having.i've just read on the BBC that firms are given a forthnight off work without a doctor's note to combat the spreading of this H1N1, could that happen here?

Well according to the above some are on the mend, but the number new cases seems to out number the once that are cured.. so what's next ...maybe you guys should wait a few more days to see how many more cases mostly from the people that went to the MTV venue., don't hold your breath! it could be me cause i taken a chance and i did go.
