Golden Bay does not need to be a rocky sandy beach

The director of the Malta Tourism Authority gave us the reason why the pebbles and rocks at the water's edge at Golden Bay are not removed (Stones Important For Sandy Beach, July 6). The specialists advised MTA that any activity, including infrastructural works, that interfere with the movement of sediment and other inputs in the sand production process would result in the erosion of the beach.

I remember Golden Bay when it was still called Military Bay and swam there very often. The sand at the water's edge was always beautifully clean and without any stones and rocks.

These were only found on either side of the bay. Unfortunately, since the reserved area and private beach just on the side of the hotel appeared, all these pebbles and big rocks ended up in the middle of the bay. One has to walk over them, which is very unpleasant and dangerous, as some of these rocks are quite big.

I humbly suggest that all these stones and rocks are cleared and moved to the far end of the bay and dumped on the rocks. The small pebbles may eventually be taken back by the rough sea in winter.

I am sure that if one day the water's edge at St George's Bay were suddenly found full of stones, they would be cleared within minutes !
