10% decline in MIA passenger movements

Malta International Airport registered a 10.1 per cent decline in passenger movements last month. The average decrease in passenger movements in the first six months of 2009 was 10.9 per cent when compared to the corresponding period last year.

The total passenger movements on scheduled and non-scheduled flights amounted to 277,833, a drop of 31,313 when compared to June 2008. Likewise, both aircraft movements and cargo and mail figures registered a decline of 3.7 per cent and 2.6 per cent respectively.

Passenger traffic to the UK and German markets slipped by 6.1 per cent and 14.5 per cent respectively while the Italian market witnessed an increase of 9.6 per cent when compared to June 2008.

The busiest day last month in terms of passengers was June 30 with 13,345 movements while the highest number of aircraft movements was 98 on June 28.
