The General Workers' Union is warning investors engaged in talks with the government over the privatisation of Enemalta's Petroleum Division that it would not recognise any agreement on workers unless it was involved.

The GWU said it had repeatedly called for consultation but this was not forthcoming and yesterday it threatened to take whatever action necessary to safeguard working conditions.

The union said Enemalta chairman Alex Tranter informed it on Monday that he had no information on the privatisation process and directed the union to the Privatisation Unit. However, the union said it was Mr Tranter himself who had promised to keep workers informed about any developments.
