Over the weekend, Marsa CC proved too strong for new touring side Ovingdean who were no match for the locals in a two-match series.

In a 35-over game on Saturday, Marsa batted first with Nowell Khosla and Javed Shah who put on a 74-run partnership before being caught.

Khosla had made 33 runs but Shah was involved in another 72-run partnership with Andy Naudi. Shah scored 70 runs.

Naudi extended his fine form into another fruitful tandem of 109, this time with Ronnie Sacco.

Naudi scored 74 and Sacco went on to add another 50 as Marsa collected a massive 283 from their allotted overs which also included 44 extras.

In reply, Ovingdean, of the UK, tried hard to keep up with the required run rate and their showing included risky shots which, however, did not pay off.

L. Selway and J. Amin top scored with 15 runs each as the visitors were bowled out for 64.

Mike Caruana was the main wicket-taker with three.

On Sunday, Marsa batted first, this time in a 20-over format.

Sarfraz Ali was run out within the first couple of overs but Andy Lenard, 20, and Joy Ghoseroy, 42, steadied the ship.

Tousif's fifty runs, including three 6s and two 4s, set Marsa on their way as Regan Hobbs chipped in with a 20 and Derek Ali 15. Marsa's total was 183 runs.

Ovingdean produced a better display on Sunday and chalked up 152 runs. Selway made 40 and N. Boe 36.

For Marsa, Derek Ali was the main wicket-taker with three.

Tomorrow, Marsa play newcomers Marple CC in a 20-over game in a build-up to the two-match series against the returning Stockport Grammar School team, next weekend.
