The GWU has warned investors holding talks with the government on the privatisation of Enemalta's Petroleum Division that it would not recognise any agreement concerning the workers unless it was part of it. It would also take whatever action was necessary to safeguard current working conditions.
The GWU said it had repeatedly called for consultation by the government and Enemalta but this had not been forthcoming.
Last Monday, during a meeting with the corporation's management, the chairman, Alex Tranter, said he had no information on the privatisation process. The GWU was told to seek such information from the Privatisation Unit.
The union said it was the chairman himself who had promised union officials that he would keep the workers informed about developments.
