Late last March I sent a letter to The Times about the proposed Barrakka lift which was duly published. I had appealed against the massive visual intrusion of the proposal and suggested a sleeker raking design which would fit snugly against the slope of the bastions.
Many friends phoned expressing agreement with my suggestion but I have not seen any official reaction.
I have since seen that Renzo Piano's proposed lift at City Gate is a raking lift on the lines I had suggested for the Barrakka. Perhaps the authorities that ignored my suggestion would take more notice of Mr Piano.

Mr Zammit, you did not ask for a seven figure fee for your idea, so it cannot have been any good.
