President's gardens

After our President made access to San Anton Gardens as easy as it is today, I became one of those hundreds of people to visit this gem of a public garden almost daily. How wise of our President and our First Lady to offer such a beautiful place to the public. The flowers and soft areas are kept in a pristine condition by a very professional and dedicated staff. Well done!

I would like to make just one observation. I would like to see a more hygienic public convenience. Apart from all the local people, I have seen busloads of tourists from various countries visiting these gardens and I feel they should be treated to a much cleaner and better kept public convenience. Product Malta also includes the small details.

@L Galea Allow me to take a different tack from my own point which agrees with you and refer to your questions. Maltese people have grown accustomed to not expect much in the areas we are talking about. Maltese Governments - all of them -for whatever reason- have never succeeded in providing to some high conistent level what the population needs. They have grown accustomed to make do and finish all their sentences with ..........ghax hawn hekk ahna!!!! So this writer does not necessarily have an inferiority complex but has a hope that someone somewhere in Government might listen a bit more if you shame them with the tourist bit. Of course things should be fixed for the Maltese but the evidence of what can and has been achieved is , at best, very patchy. The Government fixes one thing - never maintains it for lack of resources, some Maltese vandalize it and within a year or two everything is back to square one. Unless it's privatized like the airport!!! Most other places, buildings, roads, footpaths etc etc in the hands of Government are generally of third world condition.

Agree with you, but why should things be fixed for tourists and not Maltese citizens? Are we anything less than tourists? And shouldn't Maltese citizens as the taxpayers come first? Why do you have to have such an inferiority complex?

You are a very nice man Mr Abela. However, buried in your comment is the typical Maltese cringe. The Maltese people "deserve" certain things themselves and should expect their Governments (Central and local) to provide them with such things as good roads, good footpaths, good public transport, a greener environment ie more trees, good Government services - police, local councils, Govt Depts etc etc. The Maltese deserve much better infrastructure - proper street drainage, healthy sewage systems, clean public toilets and so on. If these things are provided for all Maltese citizens then tourists will automatically enjoy them too!
