A memorable event (2)

The Times reported (June 30) that thousands of people flocked to Valletta last Monday to witness "the historic moment when Floriana's statue of St Publius entered the capital city for the first time".

This is (historically) incorrect since, in fact, quoting from Rajt Malta Tinbidel Volume IV by Herbert Ganado (Il-Ħajja Press, Blata I- Bajda), on June 20, 1960 the statue of St Publius Martyr was carried from Floriana to Valletta and, after having found shelter in St Paul's Shipwreck Church in Valletta, was carried back (shoulder high) to the Granaries in Floriana on June 23, 1960.
