Canoeist Christopher Camilleri completed his schedule of races in the 2009 Med. Games yesterday after taking part in three 500m races, one of them a B Final category.

Camilleri, making his debut in the Games, finished sixth from lane 2 in the B Final in a time of 2:03.813 ahead of other paddlers from Egypt, Montenegro and Lebanon.

However, Camilleri's best showings came in the morning races when he clocked times of 1:54.890 in the heat and an improved 1:50.444 in the semi-final where he had a shot at a slot in the A Final but was eliminated after finishing eighth in a strong field that included K1 1,000m silver medallist Orcun Tolga Karaoglanoglu.

Karaoglanoglu, of Turkey, also failed to make the A Final after finishing sixth. The gold medal was won by Spain's Francisco Llera Blanco in 1:45.025.

Lack of winds again hit the sailing competitions in Pescara. Yesterday's series was cancelled with only seven events from the scheduled 11 held along the week.

Maya Podesta was unable to improve on her 13th position in the final classification with the Maltese sailor's best showing coming on Thursday when she placed fifth in the one of the regattas.

She finished on 64 points, way behind gold medal winner Sophie de Turckheim, of France (seven points).

The 2009 Med. Games come to a close this evening with the closing ceremony.

Italy, France, Spain, Greece and Turkey dominated most of the events during the week. The hosts were topping the medals' table yesterday with 164 medals, 59 of which were gold.

Malta is in the medals table thanks to William Chetcuti's silver medal in Double Trap.

Raffa player David Farrugia almost joined Chetcuti in the list but he had to settle for fourth place in the singles event after losing a play-off for a bronze medal.

The next Med. Games, in 2013, will be held in Volos, Greece.
