Finance Minister interviewed: VAT investigations and the Budget

Investigations carried out so far in the VAT Department fraud case indicate that it had been 'a little difficult' to discover the scam, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech tells Mark Micallef in an interview today.

Mr Micallef also replies to questions on the Budget insisting that the accent to boost the economy has to be on investment, rather than increasing disposable income. Extracts of the interview can be seen in the interview above. The full text is carried in The Sunday Times.

How come if one were to claim vat refund two consecutive times, within few days, one is asked to submit records of accounts, sometimes going back number of years, and inspection by vat inspectors. Being small fry one is dug up further down the foundations huge entities.....????
