The first Tommy Hilfiger tournament was played recently at the Royal Malta Golf Club (RMGC) with Paul Stoner winning the trophy with a net 60.

With a gross 67, Stoner admitted that it was his best performance for over 20 years at the RMGC, winning with a combined score of 130, followed by Nick Borg and John J. Micallef, in third, both on 131.

Yvonne van Beek, with a combined score of 141, was a clear winner in the women's competition. She was followed by Kirstin Schwinghammer (143) and in joint third place with 144 were Manuela Roth and Joanne Cassar. Roth finished higher on count back.

The tournament was spread over three days. Van Beek and Stoner, along with lucky-draw winners Hans Klotz and Maureen Borg, will now attend the Tommy Hilfiger launch of the Ryder Cup range next year at Celtic Manor. They will attend a formal dinner, get to play the 'two-ten course' (the first golf course ever designed to host the Ryder Cup), and take a golf lesson from international tour pro, Nick Dougherty.

Prizes were also awarded for the longest drive to Richard Crossley and Anne Thompson and nearest to the pin, Frank Wagg and Roth.

Jonathan Shaw, director of Tommy Hilfiger (Malta), presented the prizes which, besides trophies, also included Myoka Spa vouchers.

"We are very happy and delighted to organise this tournament with the Royal Malta Golf Club and we look forward to supporting the club for years to come," he said in his address.

The Tommy Hilfiger tournament also marked the close of competitions for the season which re-opens at the start of September.
