Woman asks police not to free husband

A woman pleaded with the police not to release her husband, who had allegedly fired shots at her father's house, because she feared him, a court heard yesterday.

Keith Micallef, 30, denied firing two shots at the wall of his father-in-law's apartment in Żebbuġ during a family argument that broke out at about at 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Prosecuting Officer Chris Pullicino said Mr Micallef's wife had told the police they were scared of him. "Don't let him out, don't bring him here," she told the police after he was arrested. There could have been more serious consequences because the shooting took place when there was a two-year-old boy inside the house, Police Inspector Pullicino said.

Mr Micallef also denied slightly injuring his father-in-law, Carmelo Farrugia and damaging the wall of his apartment. He was also charged with firing a weapon within 200 metres of an inhabited area.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli refused bail.

Lawyer Gavin Gulia appeared for Mr Micallef. Lawyer Tanya Sciberras Camilleri appeared as parte civile.
