Valletta trounce Keflavik, B'Kara lose
Valletta turned on the style as they trounced Icelandic team Keflavik 3-0 in the first leg of their Europa League first qualifying round tie at the Centenary Stadium.
Dyson Falzon put the dominant Citizens ahead after 25 minutes, poking the ball home from close range after Keflavik goalkeeper Lasse Jorgensen had parried away an effort by Dutch forward geert den Ouden.
Doding Priso doubled Valletta's lead four minutes into the second half and Den Ouden rounded the scoring in the final stages. The 3-0 victory makes Valletta favourites to reach the second qualifying round where a clash with Irish side St Patrick's awaits the winners of this tie.
The second leg will be played in Keflavik next Thursday.
Meanwhile Slaven Koprivnica (Croatia) beat Birkirkara 1-0.

I was at the stadium too. Citizens..you made us proud. A clear win from the dominant team. The whites were always in control of this game. A rare feat when Maltese teams participate in European competitions. I was really impressed with the team effort and performance. The Dutch coach and Yordi look they are already leaving a positive attitude in the City clan. Thumbs up for the veteran captain Gilbert Agius - he was outstanding with a brilliant performance. Thanks Whites!

Well done Valletta City, from a Hibernians fan. Pity Hibs didn't manage the same feat, but at least we'll console ourselves with the Premier League Cup... it's always something anyway hehe! ;)
Seriously, good luck Valletta, hope weather in Iceland doesn't ruin the second leg.. All the best! And obviously, Good Luck Hibernians too, everything is possible still - the final result is 90minutes away!

Very impressive. It is usually the other way around. Following the most disappointing performance from Hibernians against hopeless opposition, Valletta manage to get a clear win against an Icelandic team which is probably a class or two above Mogren.
I wonder if the 3-0 win for Valletta could be the biggest win in Europe by a Maltese team so far? I can't recall any bigger wins right now, at least.
