Zurrieq football player corruption case continues

The compilation of evidence in the case against Żurrieq player Josef Briffa, who stands charged with trying to bribe another Sta Luċija player, Melvin Agius, before the game, continued this morning with Sta Lucija FC president Victor Scerri giving testimony.

Mr Briffa is pleading not guilty.

Dr Scerri told the court that two of his players were approached by the Żurrieq player number 11 and told that if they allowed a goal to happen, they would get 1,000 euros each.
A promotion was at stake for the teams. With a 2-2 draw at the final whistle, Żurrieq went on to win on penalties and move up to the second division.
