Scouts clean up Vittoriosa bastions

The Venture Unit of the 1st Cospicua Scout Group is cleaning up the bastions in the area of St John's Tower and the Couvre Porte, the old entrance to the city of Vittoriosa.

The local council was the mover behind the initiative as part of its constant drive to maintain the historical city while at the same time instilling in the young members of the Scout Group a sense of civic duty and appreciation of the cultural and historical heritage of the locality.

The scouts put to good use the abseiling and teamwork skills they are constantly learning and practising.

The walls being cleaned are more than six storeys high in some parts.

Prosit Young Men of Cottonera! It's a breath of fresh air to see our youth in the news for the right reasons. Such synergy between our local councils and volunteer youth organisations is to be commended. Well done Cospicua Scouts and Well done Birgu Local Council. Keep it up!

Well done to the 1st Cospicua Scout group which really provides a sterling service whenever they are called upon to help out. We generally tend to hear that the youth population in Malta is not aware of their responsibilities and it is very refreshing to see that these youths show a real civic sense. Once again, well done to you all.

Good job and well done to the venture unit and Vittoriosa local council. I wonder if the scouts would be willing to clean up fort St. Angelo's walls next. There are several caper bushes growing out of the fissures in the bastions one particularly large bush is growing out of the concrete brick wall which was built to conceal the swimming pool beneath the cavalier and which I'm sure is causing considerable damage to the stone work.
