August Moon Ball launched

The Ball of the August Moon is being held at the Verdala Palace on August 1.

The ball was launched by President and Mrs George Abela and all proceeds will go for the Malta Community Chest Fund. Tickets cost 50 euros each and are obtainable from the MCCF offices at the Palace in Valletta.

Dr Abela said the MCCF could not depend just on the annual fund collection campaign l-Istrina since demand was continuously rising. Talks, he said, were underway for l-Istrina this year to take a different format.

Taking part in the ball will be the Armed Forces of Malta band and the Renzo Spiteri Quintet, accompanied by singer Nadine Axisa.

More information can be obtained from 2124 0784 between 8 a.m. and 1.30 p.m.

I have been attending this magnificent occasion for the last 7 years. One year seems to score better than the other and I have even organised friends to come from abroad for this occasion. BUT, I'm afraid that this year I, together with my friends are giving it a miss. I cannot understand that the palace team and volunteers who have done such a wonderful job for the last 19 years are simply not there any more because they were told to go. There might be very good reasons for this but it has all been so hushed up that I feel I cannot have complete faith in the new organisers. However I wish the new Committee the best of luck and I sincerely hope that a lot of money is raised for the Community Chest Fund which in my opinion, is the best deserving charity on the island.
