The Arditti Quartet, one of the most important chamber ensembles, is taking part in the Malta Arts Festival giving a concert at the President’s Palace Courtyard in Valletta on July 11 at 9:30 p.m.

The Quartet enjoys a worldwide reputation for their spirited and technically refined interpretations of contemporary and earlier 20th century music. Several hundred string quartets and other chamber works have been written for the ensemble since its foundation by first violinist Irvine Arditti in 1974. These works have left a permanent mark on 20th century repertoire and have given the Arditti Quartet a firm place in music history.

The Arditti Quartet will be performing Beethoven’s notoriously difficult Große Fuge (1825), Quartet No. 1 ‘Fragemento’ (1985 - 1986) by Luis De Pablo, Tetras (1983) by Iannis Xenakis, String Quartet No. 5 (2004-2005) by Pascal Dusapin and String Quartet No. 4 (1928) by Béla Bartok. The performers include Irvine Arditti (violin), Ashot Sarkissjan (violin), Ralf Ehlers (viola) and Lucas Fels (cello).

In an effort to reach the widest possible audiences, entrance for the performance is €15. Tickets are available online from www.maltaticket.com or from any of the following outlets in Malta and Gozo: Exotique, Agenda, Vodafone, Bookends and Newskiosk.
