How I savoured, about a year ago, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi's pre-election promise, namely that he will be directly responsible for Mepa.
Today I ask myself: What did he exactly mean. If he is failing to take action and deliver against such a clear-cut blunder committed in Baħrija valley? I have a number of questions that I would like to ask him.
Does he have to wait for the results of pending investigations to commit himself and tell us what he thinks about the excavation works already carried out in such idyllic surroundings?
Does he have to wait for an impact assessment survey to give us his view? Is he for or against such horrendous development (Baħrija is just one example), especially when this takes place in areas which are outside a development zone?
Is he and his party truly leading Malta, or is it the greedy developer - always on the prowl for more money, irrespective of what expense - who is ruling our dear little island?
Does he, and the party he represents, have to ponder long why such a substantial number of voters were put off voting Nationalist during recent elections?
Surely the people are fed up with the sheer arrogance that is being shown by a number of individuals who have strong ties with the Nationalist Party.
And while I am it, I think it's relevant to mention another sacriligious development: This is the 11-storey complex along Xemxija ridge.
I wonder what Dr Gonzi has to say about this.
Dear Prime Minister, we pro-environmentalists would love to see you show your mettle and put your feet down on the above and similar projects.
Doing this is a sure guarantee of a noticeable rise in Nationalist Party supporters and sympathisers.
