The Swedish government may ask voters to reconsider their rejection of euro membership at some stage, although there was no urgency at present, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said in an interview on France 24 television.
Swedish voters rejected euro membership in a referendum in 2003 but Reinfeldt said that the issue may be brought before voters again at some future point, given the virtues the single currency had shown in the economic crisis.
"Even from outside. I must say that we would have been in deeper problems without the euro," he said, according to a transcript of the interview released on Wednesday, as Sweden assumed the revolving presidency of the European Union.
"And, somewhere in the future, we might ask the people again if they have reconsidered. But that's not the time now."
