A 25-year-old man who allegedly smashed his girlfriend's car window after she refused to lower it during an argument was denied bail yesterday in order to avoid the possibility of another fight breaking out between them.
The two had an argument on Sunday morning and they took off from Marsaxlokk in different cars at about 10.30 a.m., the court heard. The accused, Jerken Decelis from Marsa, chased his girlfriend, calling her on her mobile phone on the way.
When he got through and asked her to pull over, as he wanted to speak to her, she duly stopped at the side of the road but when she refused to wind down the window he punched it and it broke, injuring her eye, the court was told. Mr Decelis pleaded not guilty to causing serious injury to his girlfriend and damaging her car.
Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana asked the court to deny bail as she feared for the safety of the alleged victim if the two were to get into another argument.
Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna upheld the request and remanded him in custody. Lawyer Jesmond Manicaro appeared for the accused.
