The MCA Summer League continued on Saturday with two other matches from the competition. Overseas played Melita and Marsa took on Krishna.

In the first match, Phil Gibbs and Sebastian Le Barth opened the batting for Overseas.

Gibbs scored two runs and Le Barth 25. Richard Newbould only managed one run but Joe Wilson hit the team's best score of 39.

Sean Duffy added six runs, Piers Allen seven, Roger Bradley three and Peter Bradley had no runs as Overseas were bowled out in the 16th over, totalling 98 runs.

Will Nicholls was the main wicket-taker for Melita with four wickets.

In reply, Melita made the runs required by the 17th over.

Joy Ghoseroy had 51 before being run out. Colin Willis (five) and Justin Brooke (two) were also run out. Firoz remained not out on 23. Tony Slater made two runs. He was caught and bowled byLe Barth, the only wicket-taker for Overseas.

Melita gained eight points for their win while Overseas earned one point.

In the other match, Marsa batted first with Javed Shah and Sarfraz Ali at the crease. Shah scored 12 runs while Ali only managed two. Derek Ali top-scored with 40 from 31 balls faced. Ronnie Sacco scored 31 before being caught and Mike Caruana added another 19. The Marsa team's total was 123.

For Krishna, Nowell Khosla took three wickets. The highlight in the bowling came from two consecutive maiden overs, one by Sam Dhandapani and the other by Kevin Krishna.

In reply, Nowell Khosla scored 45 runs from 46 balls, Sam Dhandapani 25, Andy Naudi six and Tosif two.

John Grima had 26 runs from 17 balls in a decisive innings. He was run out on the very last ball.

In that last over, eight runs were needed for victory. Four points came from the first five balls. Krishna needed another four to win or three to tie off the last ball. Grima, however, was run out.

For Marsa, Derek Ali took three wickets. Marsa earned seven points and Krishna one.

Standings: Marsa, Melita 18 points, Krishna 13, Overseas 10.

Next weekend, Marsa CC take on touring team Ovingdean from the UK.
