Unnecessary clampdown
Not so long ago MTA officials visited various catering establishments all over Malta ordering owners to remove their outside furniture, plants etc. causing a lot of unnecessary stress to the owners. Once again the same officials are now calling at catering establishments, this time giving them orders to remove umbrellas, canopies etc. that have an advertisement on them.
This unusual request from the Malta Tourist Authority comes at a time when the industry is facing a lot of uncertainty and the future of catering employees looks bleak. Is this move by the MTA really necessary? The beverage companies, trying hard to make ends meet, will be facing an extremely difficult task, as owners of catering establishments will have no option but to call their suppliers to collect the umbrellas, canopies and anything that carries an advertisement on it.
The MTA's advertising budget has been increased, yet local companies who invested thousands of euro in advertising material are being denied the right to promote their product.
Mario de Demarco owes us an explanation.

It is restauranteurs and others who usurp public property for their own private use that owe us an explanation.
You have no right to occupy public property and you should be forced to use your own property for your own business.
Pavements and public property areas are for the public to use and not for you to profit from.

Do the same as most are doing espeically in Gozo, sell up and move out to pastures new, we are off to Canada as soon as we get the go ahead, its a better life all wround for our family, Malta and Gozo have now sorry to say passed the sell by date Tourist Board. No more toruist are listening they've seen the light, and sitting indoors enjoying a meal in the summer months is no fun.

Never mind Mr. Rizzo, do like you do when tables and chairs and other furniture are removed from unauthorised areas outside your establishments. Leave a few days and put your umbrellas back again. You won't see an MTA official for a year or so.
