PN's appointment of Labour supporter
Angelo Zahra from Żejtun, in his letter of June 25, challenged anyone to mention the name of a Labour supporter who, in the times of a Nationalist Administration, was appointed on any government board. Ċensu Moran was a member on the Malta Maritime Authority board and may I add a very respected member.
Dr Moran was not an ordinary Labour supporter, he was a Minister under Labour. I hope this satisfies Mr Zahra's lack of knowledge regarding current affairs.

@All PN Apologists. Without showing any disrespect to the President. Dr. George Abela was chosen because 1. He's a moderate. 2. A good organiser (ipso facto automatically put the PL (according to the PN) in a disadvantage. 3. A Figurehead without executive powers. Who knows if the President had executive powers, the PN wouldhave done the same.

@PN apologists. You're mention five out of how many authorities? A drop in the ocean! And they were nominated because they were excellent workers. There aren't any better than them. But of course, the PN used them as a lever. But they saw through the trick. And Ms. Marlene Mizzi can vouch for that! Why not ask Dr. A. Gatt what he tried to do toSea Malta?

What shall I ask Marlene Mizzi?
Marlene Mizzi was appointed to carry out the Government's policies and objectives for Sea Malta. If she no longer could do that she should have had gracefully resigned and not carry on as she did.
I am not familiar with Edward Scicluna circumstances. What I know is that Edward Scicluna served on a number of Governmental Boards.
Marlene Mizzi's case perhaps makes the case why Government of the day should appoint individuals of the same persuasion as that of the Government of the day

I am sure party leaders from both sides of the political divide would like to appoint competent persons from the opposite side but they are often prevented by their followers and lackeys who think that whilst their party is in power they should enjoy the whole lolly.
To the credit of Dr Sant he tried hard to break this tradition with the result the he earned the ire of his party followers and was back stabbed by some of those of the opposite side in which he put trust.
Let us all admit that there are as many red eyed boys eagerly waiting to monopolise power as there are blue eyed ones currently enjoying it.
The only solution I feel is a statutory requirement that on every government board and organisation the leader of the opposition will have the right to nominate a certain proportion of the board members.

@ V. Laiviera, How many swallows would make a summer for you? I mention here just a couple of persons that come to my mind just now. Besides Dr V. Moran, we have Louis Grech, Edward Scicluna, Marlene Mizzi, Mr White with you as secretary if i am not mistaken. There was an other chair of MDD coming from labour. The education Dept it is staffed with labour supporters. How many nationalist did labour appoint in such positions. The answer is clearly none.

What about labour MEPs Louis Grech, exchairman of Airmalta; Marlene Mizzi exchairperson of Sea Malta and the former Chairman of the MCESD and a member of numerous government boards including the NECC, Edward Scicluna. Their politics were widely known and yet they were still appointed chairmen by the NP government. I have a number of highly qualified LP supporter friends who currently sit on government boards. Drop your blinkers.

What about Mr Louis Grech and Ms Marlene Mizzi as Chairpersons of Air Malta and Sea Malta respectively form quite a number of years under Nationalist administrations!

This is exactly how you can play with democracy at which the PN is an expert. You can appoint one two or more members in a board but as long as the govt members outnumber the others, govt easily rolls over.....despotic democracy.

i barely say that you mention 1 member in a board in a span of over 20 years....my oh my that truly shows that PN appoints members from the opposition.
Only one person went along with the idea of appointin members from the opposite side, namely Dr.Alfred Sant and that worked against him.....

A swallow does not a summer make and there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Mr Zahra is absolutely right. Gov appointed bodies are all packed solid with blue-eyed boys and girls - and this in direct breach of a PN election promise that all appointments would be made after a public call for applications. A promise which was broken and forgotton within hours after the election.
