The recent changeover to the use of biometric passports for Maltese citizens was a good step towards better and more modern means of identification at international ports and borders. A similar changeover is eagerly and patiently being awaited for national identity cards.
However, I disagree with the way passport applications for adults are formatted. When downloaded or photocopied the details of the applicant are written on one loose page, whereas the page endorsed by a recommender is also found loosely and doesn't bear the name of the applicant.
This clearly loses the scope of the recommender's signature because loose papers can be exchanged maliciously with anyone else's.
At least a space for the name of the adult applicant has to be included on the same page filled by the recommender.
