A job well done at Ħondoq ir-Rummien
I read James Tyrell's comments regarding the Ħondoq repairs with interest and it is always good to keep a weather eye on the progress of such works. However if Mr Tyrell were here he would, I am sure, be able to deduce that the area where any crane would have to be situated in order to lift the very sizeable boulders out of the water is precisely the area of the hole!
Obviously the new concreting works had to be completed and the concrete sufficiently "cured" before being subjected to the weight of the crane. As I write, the boulders are being cleared from the water and the area will soon be safe again. So "well done" to the contractors who, once having started the job, actually got on and finished and thank you to Mr Tyrell for keeping Ħondoq in our minds.

Hi David. Sorry for the delay in replying to you but I haven't had much time this week. I can understand what you are saying David and fully agree with you from the point of view of the crane used to do the job. However there was nothing to stop the person taking on the tender to remove the boulders from bringing in a crane with the necessary reach to do the job. They didn't have to wait until the quay repair was complete so that they could sit on top of it!
The firm I work for have more cranes, cherry pickers etc than a blind man could shake a stick at for the simple reason that different jobs call for different equipment. In the event we don't have the right equipment to carry out a job we hire in.
The ministry are saying that the delay in getting the repair done was due to the weather but the information I have is that the delay was down to the time taken to issue the tenders for the work. This was always a matter of Health & Safety and therefore should have been dealt with quicker.

@David Carter.Sometimes we" can't see the wood for the trees" ! Well done for pointing out the "obvious".A simple statement by the Gozo Ministry could have prevented most of the concerns that have been with a lot of people(including visitors)who care about Gozo.I look forward now to my next visit to Gozo this coming weekend.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. The proof of the works' worthiness is in the beating (by the next tempest at sea).

Yep, Hondoq is once again the lovely bay we all know it to be. It's immaculate! Thanks to all concerned for a job well done. Now, please control those caravans who tend to spend days on end at this Bay. And finally, please tackle the road leading down to Hondoq; it can be quite uncomfortable. All in all, "we love Hondoq"!
