Neptunes break medley relay record

Competing in the first session of the 2009 Vileda National Swimming Championships yesterday, the Neptunes female quartet of Nicole Cremona, Francesca Paolella, Davina Mangion and Melinda Sue Micallef broke the national 4x100 metres medley relay record set by the national team at the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) in Cyprus barely three weeks ago.

They stopped the watches on 3 minutes 35.11 seconds, beating the previous mark of 3:36.51.

There was another very good performance from the Neptunes boys' team in the same event when they were 0.40 seconds off the national record of 3:13.27.

The championships continue today with a morning and afternoon session and will come to an end tomorrow morning.

Five clubs are participating, namely, Birkirkara St Joseph, IASIS, Neptunes, Sirens and Sliema.
