Valletta plans implementing PN's electoral promise

The launch of plans for the entrance to the capital yesterday was implementing a Nationalist Party electoral promise.

The PN’s promise was that the regeneration of Valletta would continue and a final decision would be taken for the project covering City Gate, Freedom Square and the old Opera House so that these would be completed by 2018 when Valletta would be European capital.

The PN said in a statement the project would give Valletta the dignity it deserved, it would be a cultural capital which honoured the country and it would continue to make Valletta a unique jewel in the Mediterranean.

At the same time, government investment in these new projects would strongly stimulate the economy both during their execution and once these were functioning.

The projects would encourage more tourists to visit the country and find in the capital a unique centre of arts and culture which would sustain Valletta’s commercial community.

This was a historic and special moment for the country and a moment of satisfaction for the people.

Following 60 years of debate, the time had now come for Valletta to make a leap in quality and for the city to be given the dignity the Maltese people deserved.
