Athletes compete in the Lewa Marathon at the Lewa wildlife conservancy near Isiolo about 300km from Kenya's capital Nairobi, yesterday. The Lewa Marathon was first held in 2000 with the aim of raising funds for conservation and community projects around Samburu, Isiolo, Laikipia and Meru areas. The marathon attracts competitors from all over the world. Big groups of runners enter from the United States and United Kingdom. Athletes from Australia, India, Europe and Canada also participate. Kenya's Paul Tergat, a former world marathon record holder, was among the runners who took part in the Lewa Marathon yesterday.
